Aviva has appointed Anne Durkin as head of protection reinsurance as she continues the role having transferred over with the purchase of AIG Life UK.
In the new role Durkin (pictured) will have overall responsibility for the insurer’s protection reinsurance for individual and group businesses, including the former AIG Life business now known as Aviva Protection UK Limited (APUK).
The creation of the role is in recognition of the overall scale of the protection business, and the importance of reinsurance to the insurer’s strategic ambitions, it said.
Durkin has more than 20 years of experience in the protection market and joined the team as part of the integration of APUK from her role as head of reinsurance at AIG Life.
Her prior roles spanned pricing, reporting, capital management and risk at AIG Life, Royal Liver Assurance and Entegria.
Durkin will report to commercial director Nick Austin.
Austin said: “This newly-created role reflects the significance of reinsurance, and the importance of Aviva’s relationships with its reinsurers, to the overall success of the protection business, particularly following the acquisition of AIG Life last year.
“Anne has a wealth of experience in protection reinsurance, as well as strong relationships across the market, both of which will be highly valuable as we develop and further strengthen Aviva’s reinsurance function.”
Durkin said she was delighted to take on the role and was looking forward to continuing to collaborate with its reinsurance partners.
