Aviva completes sale of Italian and Polish businesses for £2.4bn

Aviva has completed the sale of its Italian life insurance and Polish businesses.

In an announcement to the London Stock Exchange, the insurer confirmed it had received £462m from CNP Assurances for the Italian business.

The sale follows yesterday’s announcement of the completion of the sale of Aviva’s entire shareholding in Aviva Poland to Allianz for £2bn.

Commenting on the sales, Amanda Blanc, group chief executive officer of Aviva, (pictured) said: “In the last 24 hours we have completed the sales of both Aviva Poland and our Italian life insurance business.

“These are major steps forward as we radically simplify Aviva. I have no doubt that both businesses will thrive under their excellent new owners and I wish them and all their people every future success.”

In October, Aviva announced it had sold its businesses in France and Italy for a combined £3bn as part of its major restructuring programme.
