Best Doctors Insurance Group GWP up $15.4m as net income doubles

Gross written premiums (GWP) at Best Doctors Insurance Group rose by $15.4m or 4.5% in the 2025-26 financial year to reach $342.7m.

That total includes Best Doctors Insurance Limited (BDIL), the operating company of Best Doctors Insurance, and all other operating entities within the BDI Group of companies.

The insurance group added that its group net income more than doubled to $21.3m from $9.4m in the prior year, which it said reflected stronger operational performance across the business.

For the Best Doctors Insurance company specifically, GWP reached $290m while net income increased to $19.2m.

The insurer also said its capital position improved considerably with the BDIL solvency coverage ratio increasing to 348% with $42.1m available capital.

It primarily operates in Latin America and the Caribbean but also has some business in Africa, Asia and the rest of the world.

In the year ending March 2026, the Latam and Caribbean region produced GWP of $256.6m, up from $250.5m, Africa accounted for almost $16m in premiums, up from $13.4m, while Asia ($11.9m) and other geographical areas ($5.5m) were up slightly.

The insurer has a 95% share agreement with reinsurer RGA.

It did not provide an update on its membership and claims figures, but a year earlier said it had more than 500 companies insured with more than 14,000 employees covered, while 142,544 claims had been paid.

Best Doctors Insurance CEO Sheldon Kenton said it was a very strong year for both the group and each of its operating companies.

“While financial discipline and operational excellence remain central to our success, what stands out most is the momentum we have created across the business,” he said.

“The investments we have made over recent years in our products, technology, service capabilities and distribution partnerships are delivering tangible results.

“We enter this new fiscal year with confidence, stronger market engagement, improved financial performance and a real sense that Best Doctors Insurance is firmly on the move.”
