Bupa rejigs B2B leadership team as commercial director Mark Allan changes role

Mark Allan has been appointed as general manager for business and specialist products as part of a leadership team restructure at Bupa UK.

Allan was previously commercial director UK insurance at the insurer.

Meanwhile, director of distribution Iain McMillan will lead a new team dedicated to managing relationships with brokers and prospective clients, the insurer said.

Richard Norris, director of SME and specialist products, will include dental insurance and health cash plans within his remit, while Will Shaw, director of corporate, will have a focus on health and wellbeing for corporate clients.

Health & Protection has asked Bupa if any other job changes or people moves have been made, but the provider only confirmed that nobody has been released as a result of the changes announced today.

A Bupa spokesperson said the new structure was line with a refocusing of current teams.

“Mark [Allan], Will [Shaw], Iain [McMillan] and Richard [Norris] all currently work at Bupa – and their roles have shifted and been adapted to help us get closer to intermediaries and business customers,” the spokesperson said.

According to the spokesperson, Allan, who was previously commercial director, has been promoted into his new role. The spokesperson did not respond to enquiries about whether a replacement for the now vacant commercial director role would be appointed.

“Some reporting lines for our B2B teams have changed with the new structure. For example, Iain has now taken on new business development (sales) teams as part of his remit,” the spokesperson added.

Health and wellbeing growth

Bupa said over the past year it has seen significant growth in its health and wellbeing services across SME and corporate clients and was putting a new team and strategy in place to recognise the distinctive needs of businesses and B2B intermediaries.

The new corporate and SME and specialist teams will primarily focus on supporting customers to build healthier and happier workplaces, it added. They will also work closely with Bupa Health Clinics, Bupa Global and the new Bupa Academy for health and wellbeing.

Allan said: “Our new structure will help us deliver on this ambition with teams dedicated to building relationships that help our B2B customers and brokers make the most of the support and expertise we can provide.

“This new, refocused leadership team is demonstrative of our commitment to our business customers. We recognise that they face unprecedented challenges and new expectations from their employees.”
