Sarah Cheng is succeeding Andrew Murphy as managing director of Pacific Life Re’s Europe and North America protection teams.
Murphy, who has managed the Europe and North American protection teams for the last 18 months, is moving to Pacific Life Re’s recently formed capital solutions line of business.
As managing director of capital solutions, Murphy will be based at Pacific Life’s headquarters in Newport Beach, California, where he will oversee global client relationships and drive growth in this expanding global market.
Cheng (pictured) who will report to Andrew Gill, executive vice president for protection, joined Pacific Life Re in 2016 and brings extensive leadership, technical, and client experience to her new role gained from more than 20 years in the insurance and reinsurance industry, the reinsurer said.
Supporting Cheng is Mala Thurston who has been promoted from vice president, client solutions, protection to head of protection, Europe. Thurston will be responsible for the protection business written in Europe and will have reporting lines from the various teams in that region.
Since joining Pacific Life Re in 2016, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening client strategy, growing market presence, and achieving commercial success across the UK and Ireland, the reinsurer added.
In North America, Cheng will be supported by Brett Laker who will take on the role of vice president, client solutions for protection in North America. He joins from the reinurer’s insurtech business, UnderwriteMe where he led its North American expansion.
Scott Hunt, the current director, business development, succeeds Laker and be responsible for UnderwriteMe’s proposition in the North American market.
