Georgia d’Esterre remains “very passionate” about being a woman in protection following her recent adjacent move to the world of mortgages.
Last week West Brom Building Society revealed d’Esterre (pictured) had joined as its head of marketing.
Her most recent role was head of marketing at National Friendly, having held similar roles at Guardian and Holloway Friendly.
Coming up for Women In Protection
But d’Esterre combined these roles with her work on the executive committee at Women In Protection (WIP) – a networking group for women in the protection sector which hosts events over the year and an annual conference.
Catching up with Health & Protection, d’Esterre revealed that despite her move to mortgages, her involvement with WIP would continue.
This work has included the hosting of the organisation’s July quarterly meeting featuring a session on imposter syndrome run by career consultants Hanover on identifying the five different types of imposter.
Upcoming events for d’Esterre include the next quarterly meeting in September run by IPipeline on mentoring, a Q4 session at Royal London on money and the menopause, and next May’s annual conference.
To support this work, d’Esterre revealed WIP is creating voluntary roles for an executive network coordinator.
But the organisation is also seeking 15 women who work in protection or financial services industry to represent WIP at events and through social media to “really help raise awareness of financial resilience”.
Complementary sector
As for her new job, d’Esterre said that it “dovetails really nicely” with her work at WIP.
“I’m very, very passionate about the world of protection as I have been for six or so years,” d’Esterre continued.
“I’m still part of the exec. I’m still part of the team,” she added.
“Even though West Brom don’t offer protection, it is savings and it is mortgages. So I see it as a really nice complementary and adjacent way of increasing the education and awareness around protection.
“I’m going to be talking a lot about mortgages and the next thing to come out of my mouth is once you’ve got your mortgage, you really do need to think about how you are going to protect your way of life and your family through the relevant protection.”
