Dr Peter Mills has joined Axa Health as interim medical director within the commercial team at the health insurer, stepping in to fill the role vacated by Dr Pallavi Bradshaw.
Health & Protection understands Axa Health is still looking for a permanent medical director to take on the role for the longer-term.
Dr Mills (pictured) has almost a decade of experience in the health insurance industry in a medical career of 35 five years.
Most recently, he spent eight years as European medical director during his second stint at Cigna Europe, joining in 2015 and leaving in 2023.
He also has experience in other healthcare roles, including eight years as CMO and member of the leadership team at Vielife, a company specialising in business focused employee health management services and consultancy, which was then bought by Cigna in 2006.
In all he has more than 30 years’ medical practice experience in the NHS as a junior doctor and then specialising in respiratory medicine.
Dr Bradshaw left Axa Health insurer in October to return to the Medical Protection Society where she has taken on the position of medical director.
She joined as deputy chief medical officer in September 2021 ahead of promotion to medical director for governance, performance and risk within the provider’s commercial division in September this year.
