Former Unum CEO joins OneFamily as non-executive director

The OneFamily Group has appointed Peter O’Donnell as a non-executive director.

He joins the insurer’s board from 1 November.

A former CEO of Unum UK and finance director of Aviva’s international division, O’Donnell’s financial services career spans more than 35 years and also includes roles at Royal Sun Alliance and Prudential.

He transitioned to a portfolio career in 2021, taking a non-executive director role at Nottingham Building Society and is a director of Queen Victoria Hospital Foundation Trust.

O’Donnell joins the financial mutual at a key period of growth for the organisation, with its planned move of its Beagle Street insurance brand into the intermediary space next year and a soon to be completed modernisation programme.

Jim Islam, CEO at OneFamily, said: “I’d like to warmly welcome Peter to the team, I’m looking forward to working with him.

“Peter’s vast experience, his background in leading business growth and his understanding of the insurance and financial services sector will be a huge asset to the OneFamily Group as we enter an exciting period of expansion into new markets.”

O’Donnell added: “I’m looking forward to joining OneFamily given its strong culture of delivering outstanding customer service, caring for its staff and mutual status.

“I’m excited to start working with Jim and the team on their exciting and innovative growth strategy.”
