HCML appoints CEO and MD of corporate health and wellbeing arm

HCML has appointed James Murray as chief executive officer.

Originally a pharmacist, Murray (pictured) has held a number of healthcare leadership roles over his career. Most recently, he was a member of the executive board of Nuffield Health where he was chief commercial officer and then chief customer and strategy officer.

His appointment coincides with Vish Buldawoo joining HCML as managing director of its corporate health and wellbeing arm.

A key part of Murray’s role will be consolidating and continuing the rapid expansion and diversification which HCML has achieved over the last three years, the firm said.

He succeeds outgoing CEO, Nick Delaney, who will stay on with HCML as a non-executive director.

Delaney has been with HCML since November 2021, leading the business from £20m to £50m revenue through a combination of strong organic growth and strategic mergers and acquisitions with the acquisition of healthcare RM and CA Case Management.

Delaney said: “After nearly three years in charge, having achieved great growth and diversification for HCML, now feels like the right time to hand on the baton to the next generation of leadership.

“The appointment of someone of James’s quality is a fantastic coup for HCML and shows what an attractive business the HCML team has built. James will undoubtedly lead our people and our business to even greater heights.”

Tim Hammond, chairman of HCML, said: “We are very grateful for Nick’s leadership and wisdom over the last three years – and greatly look forward to welcoming James to HCML as we continue our growth journey.”

Murray added: “I’m delighted to have the opportunity to lead such a robust and dynamic healthcare business which I am confident will be doing great things in the years to come.”

Meanwhile Vish Buldawoo has joined as managing director of the corporate health and wellbeing arm of HCML where he will be responsible for leading the direction of the division and managing corporate relationships.

Buldawoo joins from Centrica where he spent 11 years, more recently in senior leadership positions including HR director and leading benefits, pensions and health and wellbeing across the group. He also undertook board responsibilities as well as chairing Centrica’s Healthcare Trust.

Buldawoo said: “Having previously partnered strategically with HCML as a client, I have seen first-hand the positive impact this organisation has. It is a privilege to work with so many dedicated, caring individuals whose focus is on health and wellbeing outcomes. As we move forward, I remain committed to ensuring that in my role I continue to support our business growth, our offering and expand our client base.”
