Health and financial services staff report worst work-life balance – LifeSearch

Healthcare and financial services workers are among those most likely to believe they do not have a good work-life balance, according to a study from LifeSearch.

More than a third of healthcare workers and almost as many in financial services said they worked too much – notably above the UK average.

Overall, the research showed more adults felt their work life balance was just about right, up to 63% in 2021 from 59% in 2019, but almost a third (29%) still felt they worked too much.

This figure increased among high-earners to 35% of those earning £40-50,000 and 37% of those earning more than £100,000, and among those who work in healthcare (36%), financial services and banking (32%) and manufacturing (31%).

The findings were released by the advice firm last week upon launch of its Health, Wealth and Happiness Index, compiled with the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr), which monitors changes in these three areas individually and combined, dating back to 2011.

The firm also used a survey of 3,025 adults conducted by Opinium Research in March to inform its results.
