Protection Forum: Adviser CI knowledge is pretty poor – Lakey

The level of adviser knowledge about critical illness is “pretty poor,” according to Alan Lakey director of CI Expert.

Participating in a panel debate at Health & Protection‘s inaugural Protection Forum in the City of London yesterday, Lakey (pictured far right) told delegates he thought advisers’ CI knowledge was poor and that will affect sales.

“I’ve spent the last 12, 13 years going out and seeing advisers and doing webinars and so forth,” Lakey said.

“But the level of adviser knowledge is pretty poor when it comes to critical illness.

“And if you’ve got a lack of knowledge, then it gives you a lack of confidence and you won’t promote a product, this is possibly why, when I speak to networks, they tell me that for every four mortgages they arrange one protection plan.  I don’t mean just critical illness I mean a protection plan”

“So yes, I think changes need to be made.”
