HSBC Life distribution head Mike Furniss leaves for Francis Clark Financial Planning

HSBC Life UK director of distribution Mike Furniss has left the insurer to take up a senior chartered financial planner position at Francis Clark Financial Planning.

National account manager Richard Waters will step into his role. 

Furniss was previously head of distribution (Life Products UK) at HSBC, a position he held for some five years. 

His career in financial services started in 1995 after leaving the Royal Navy. 

Furniss is a fellow of the Personal Finance Society and has Chartered Financial Planner status.

Meanwhile, Richard Waters, currently national account manager at HSBC Life UK, will become interim head of production distribution. 

Waters is currently one month short of his 32nd anniversary at HSBC Life, and was most recently in the role of national account manager, a role he has held for three years. 

Previous roles include: senior business development manager, senior manager and senior product manager. He started at HSBC Life as an insurance broker, a role he held for more than 12 years. 

HSBC said: “Mike Furniss has left HSBC to pursue external opportunities and we would like to thank him for his contribution to the business.

“Richard Waters, currently national account manager at HSBC Life (UK), will act as head of protection distribution in the interim until a permanent replacement is made.” 

In a statement on LinkedIn Furniss said: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as senior chartered financial planner at Francis Clark Financial Planning.”
