The British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) has joined the Group for Autism, Insurance and Neurodiversity (Gain).
The trade body is the latest addition to GAIN’s founding members.
GAIN launched in September saying it wanted to unlock the true potential of the neurodiverse sector of society and give them opportunities in the insurance industry.
As part of its 2022 manifesto, BIBA said it hoped this joint initiative will bring about a meaningful change for all.
It will seek to create opportunities for neurodiverse individuals to access and thrive in employment by bringing understanding and training to embed inclusive recruitment, adjustment and retention practices and, in addition accessible insurance advice
BIBA CEO Steve White said: “It is increasingly important for our sector to recognise the differing skills and talents that a diverse workforce can bring.
“That is why we wanted to be part of GAIN and work with them to inform and guide our members about inclusive environments for the neurodivergent.
“As a member of GAIN, we look forward to learning from and supporting other firms in its fold.”
Johnny Timpson, financial inclusion commissioner and GAIN committee member (pictured) welcomed BIBA’s partnership, especially given its “industry leadership and commitment to inclusion, diversity and improving access to insurance covers and careers”.
He added: “I had the privilege of working with BIBA in my former Cabinet Office disability and access ambassador role and look forward to building on our relationship as together, we seek to better serve and support the one in seven UK consumers who are neurodivergent.”
