While there was no mention of insurance in government’s Get Britain Working Review paper, the sector is very much aligned to ensuring the UK’s workforce is fit and productive.
This is according to Mark Till, CEO of Unum UK (pictured centre), who was participating in a panel debate at the Association of British Insurers (ABI) 2025 conference in Westminster last week.
Omission from paper
“The insurance sector and the workforce and the government are aligned in their core requirement which is people in work are able to be fit and productive,” Till told delegates.
“It’s quite interesting for me that in the Get Britain Working Review paper, there was no mention of insurance in there,” he added.
“Yet fundamentally, the insurance sector is completely aligned on the goal of getting people back to work.”
Quicker claims, less expensive premiums
Till maintained that from the sector’s perspective if it can get staff back to work more quickly, claims are less expensive and policy premiums can come down.
“If the premium comes down on the policy, it becomes more affordable to more employers, which means more people are covered, which means more people can benefit.
“It’s that virtuous circle,” he continued.
“Yet often the private sector can be looked at as profiteering, but actually it’s the way you harness the private sector with government policy to meet the needs of the employer.”
