Insured Nomads plans trio of technology upgrades for expat market

Insured Nomads is planning a major release of new features later this year, as the company steps up its travel-tech integration for both health and employee benefits members and travel insurance clients, according to CEO Andrew Jernigan in a recent interview with Health & Protection.

The company has outlined three priority projects for the remainder of the year: launching a new app, enhancing short-term and travel plans for group booking with features including InstaPass airport lounge access and telemedicine, and integrating new features for non-insured benefits and duty of care solutions included with health and medical plans.

Jernigan (pictured) said the enhanced offerings reflect the company’s mission to “provide the ideal benefit suite for the modern citizen.”

On the expanded services Jernigan continued: “We are thrilled to have gained the support of Allianz Partners whose willingness to extend significant underwriting capacity and provide guidance in the development of our health insurance line.

“They have been a tremendous boost to our growth plans in serving the company that has employees distributed around the globe with a robust schedule of benefits paired with our technology.”

He also highlighted the shifting workforce dynamics as the biggest factor affecting the international health and benefits space.

“The evolution to contract a blend of consultants and employees has led to the evolution of our health plans so we can include various types of workers onto group medical plan solutions,” he said.

And Jernigan advised brokers and advisers in the sector to look beyond standard medical benefits.

“Today’s client expects high level service and value-add benefits beyond the financing of healthcare,” he said.

International expansion

Since Jernigan launched the provider in 2020, it has has expanded internationally with a UK branch in 2021 and Insured Nomads Association established in France in 2023.

The association manages group insurance contracts and benefit agreements distributed by Insured Nomads Corporation and partner companies.

The provider serves companies globally through regional plans designed to reduce costs, working with a network of intermediaries and brokerage firms.

Looking ahead, Jernigan sees technology as crucial for IPMI evolution.

He said: “As the number of cross-border citizens escalates, the application of technologies to make use of plan features in a more efficient manner is on the highest priorities for both individual and group markets.”

The CEO, who survived a heart attack and open-heart surgery over a decade ago, emphasised the importance of work-life balance in the international insurance industry.

“Life working across borders and time zones can lead to working too much, too long, and without the needed boundaries,” he added.
