International private medical insurance (IPMI) specialist barrister Simon Isgar has joined Saudi Arabia-based law firm BLK Partners as a partner and its head of insurance and reinsurance practice.
Isgar (pictured) was previously partner – head of insurance and reinsurance at Dubai-based BSA Ahmad Bin Hezeem & Associates LLP.
He will remain based in the Emirate, working out of BLK Partners’ Dubai office.
Isgar is well known throughout the IPMI market having been lead international counsel for Aetna International, among other work.
He also spoke at Health & Protection’s inaugural IPMI Summit in 2022 and at the Health & Protection Middle East Forum earlier this year.
Announcing the appointment, BLK Partners said: “With over two decades of experience representing international (re)insurers and (re)insurance intermediaries worldwide, Simon specialises in both contentious and non-contentious insurance and reinsurance matters.
“His focus lies on large loss claims in cross-jurisdictional disputes related to Middle East ceded risks in overseas insurance markets, including property, professional liability, E&O, FI, D&O, political risk, and other lines.
“He advises on all aspects of claims, coverage issues, and subrogated recoveries in the Middle East.
“Additionally, Simon provides niche expertise in advising international private medical insurance companies (IPMIs) on compliance with global health insurance regulations and Middle Eastern health laws and regulations for overseas investors.”
Isgar was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales in 1998, and is involved in various professional associations, including the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Insurance Association, the British Insurance Lawyers Association (BILA), and the International Bar Association.
