IPMI Summit: Talking about mental health support year-round gives positive results – Prankard

Employers and advisers need to communicate their mental health provision throughout the year and not just at appointed times of the year such as mental health awareness month, the Health & Protection IPMI Summit has heard.

Luke Prankard, global leader total wellbeing, head of sales and alliances for EMEA at Telus Health (pictured), told delegates about the importance of employers providing “visible support” for mental health by promoting it regularly and the positive impact it could have.

“That continued conversation,” Prankard (pictured) said.

“That continued promotion and acceptance and taking away some of that stigma related to support, making sure that is being presented and made more visible.”

Prankard noted that the organisation’s research showed this strategy had demonstrable results e

“Comparing to organisations who pretty much don’t do anything around supporting mental health and wider wellbeing, we see a four times increase in those workplace mental health scores,” he said.

“And there is a two times higher increase in those workplace mental health scores compared to the average employers.

“So it’s really important to promote and talk around the positive of aspects of mental health and wellbeing to workers.”
