KPMG UK appoints former ABI director general as head of insurance

KPMG in the UK has appointed Huw Evans as its incoming head of insurance.

Evans (pictured) succeeds Trevor Jones from April 2024 when he retires from the firm. The pair will work together until this date to ensure a smooth transition.

Before joining KPMG in January 2022 as a partner in its insurance practice, Evans was director general at the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

During his time there he represented the industry through Brexit, the government’s Solvency II proposals, pension freedoms and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier in his career, he served as a special adviser to then prime minister Tony Blair and home secretary David Blunkett and spent time in the banking sector.

Karim Haji, global and UK head of financial services at KPMG, said: “Huw has had an notable career and we are all thrilled to have him in our team.

“He has brought a wealth of insights and expertise to our practice and is well respected by all corners of the insurance market.

“Huw is without doubt the best person to continue Trevor’s legacy, ensuring we develop further our market-leading practice.”

Evans added: “It is a privilege to take on this role and have the opportunity to contribute further to the future of the insurance and long-term savings market.

“The UK insurance sector has seen significant transformation over the last few years, driven by regulation, climate change, new technology and cost pressures, to name just a few.

“KPMG has world class expertise and talent in its insurance practice with an important role to play in helping the market to be the best it can be.”
