Pieterse to lead L&G’s health and care division after Roberts’ exit

Wian Pieterse is to take charge of Legal & General’s health and care division following the departure of Dr Samantha Roberts.

The insurer told Health & Protection its health and care division will now fall under the leadership of Wian Pieterse, the managing director of its fintech team, who has more than a decade and a half experience in protection.

Pieterse was promoted to MD of fintech in October, having been commercial director of group protection since joining from LV= in March 2018.

At LV= he was commercial and transformation director for protection, following a stint as the insurer’s head of protection pricing and technical risk.

Prior to joining LV=, Pieterse held actuarial roles at HSBC and Skandia.

Yesterday, Health & Protection reported that Roberts will join the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as chief executive on 1 February following the retirement of Professor Gillian Leng.

Roberts has more than 20 years’ experience of healthcare having worked in service delivery, consultancy and as a clinician.
