Shepherds Friendly has appointed Mark Myers as chairman.
The mutual said his appointment comes as it embarks on a transformative five-year strategy ahead of its 200th anniversary celebrations in 2026.
Myers, who will officially start in the position on 1 January, has been a non-executive director at the Society since 2019 and succeeds Nemone Wynn-Evans, who steps down at the end of her agreed term.
Myers has extensive expertise across banking and insurance, having held senior roles in both public companies and mutual organisations. His career highlights include serving as CEO of British Friendly, as well as being former chairman of Direct Life and Pensions/LifeQuote.
He has also held leadership positions at the Association of Financial Mutuals and LV=, and is a committee member of Huntingdon Racecourse.
Myers said: “It’s an honour to be appointed chairman, and I must thank Nemone for her service.
“Shepherds Friendly is almost 200 years young, and we’ve thrived by keeping true to our values and heritage while remaining relevant to today’s digital-first consumers.
“I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the Society expand first-hand, and I’m excited to steer it towards further sustainable growth and success as it continues to operate in the best interests of its members.”
Ann-Marie O’Dea, CEO at Shepherds Friendly, added: “I’m delighted to welcome Mark as our new chairman.
“His contributions as non-executive Ddrector have been so valuable, and his extensive knowledge and insight will be of even greater benefit as we meet evolving member and market needs.”
