Wipro rolls out Covid support measures for staff in India

Wipro is supporting its staff in India with access to Covid care centres and a nurturing wellness platform as the pandemic takes its toll on the subcontinent.

Last week, Health & Protection revealed the Bangalore-headquartered firm had pledged to reimburse employees in countries hard-hit by Covid-19 such as India and Brazil should their medical treatment costs exceed their insurance coverage.

When contacted by Health & Protection to expand on the support provided to its employees in India, a spokesperson for Wipro said the group has announced a series of new measures.

In addition to support with additional expenses, employees can access an interest-free contingency loan if the support does not adequately cover their Covid care costs.

With just 2% of the firm’s employees working from its Indian officers and this number expected to decline further as more people work from home, the spokesperson added that Wipro has created back-up teams for critical engagements.

The spokesperson further revealed that Wipro has partnered with an online-to-offline delivery platform specialising in primary care and urgent response services to bring Covid-19 vaccination support services to employees.

And it is launched a nurturing wellness platform offering access to doctors, nutritionists, health coaches, virtual consultations, and 24/7 emergency care experts.

Vaccination camps

The group has also provided access to free pre and post-vaccination support as well as vaccination reimbursement for employees and their spouses.

Towards the end of April, Wipro held its first vaccination camp for employees above the age of 45 in Bangalore and has since held a similar camp in Chennai. The spokesperson added the group is seeking to roll out vaccination camps across other major offices in India.

According to the spokesperson, Wipro has partnered with third party service providers to make available Covid care centres in various Indian cities exclusively for employees and their immediate family members with major hospitals across India to ensure critically ill employees have access to the best medical facilities and has set up a dedicated call centre manned by its service provider to support its employees.

And to ensure the group’s focus is not just on physical health, but also on employee emotional wellbeing, it offers an employee assistance program (EAP), 24/7 counselling sessions and assistance for issues related to their personal or professional life.
