Zurich launches Virtual GP and second medical opinion services

Insurer Zurich has launched Virtual GP and second medical opinion services ‘ZGP24’ to support its group risk customers.

ZGP24, introduced for new and reviewing group income protection and group life customers and available to employees and their families, will provide 24/7 unlimited access to private GPs via the ‘ZGP24’ app or a phone call.

Patients can choose a time and date convenient to them, whether they want a video or phone appointment and if they have a preference for a male or female doctor. The system is supported by a translation service with more than 200 languages available, while GPs will be able to issue private prescriptions, referral letters and fit notes.

The second medical opinion service, which offers face-to-face, telephone or video consultations with a specialist consultant, provides access to a network of clinical specialists across the UK and aims to enable individuals to ask unanswered questions about any proposed treatment, discuss alternative treatment options and gain peace of mind about a diagnosis.

Commenting on the launch, Nick Homer, head of corporate risk market management, adds; “We’re delighted to be introducing these exciting new services for our corporate risk customers when timely access to remote medical support has never been more important. We’re confident that the addition of ZGP24 will be of huge value to our customers and their employees – especially given the current challenges faced by the NHS in light of the pandemic.

“The past 12 months have shone a light on protection products and the safety net that they can provide – not just financially, but through the additional services and support available to employers and their employees.”

David Jennings, commercial director at HealthHero, adds: “We are delighted to welcome another partner, Zurich, on board reflecting the increasing demand and recognition from corporates and insurers for value-added services for their clients and members.

“Additional services such as virtual GPs play an important role in helping customers support their business where the interventions can help support employee well-being.”
