The Exeter, the specialist health and protection insurer, reported this week that it saw usage of its Healthwise physical and mental support service more than double in 2020.
The provider said the impact of the pandemic is behind the surge. A spokesperson said that following a 527% spike in year-on-year usage last March, remote GP appointments were the number one used service in 2020, with 91% of members receiving advice or an onward referral following their consultation.
In addition, physiotherapy and mental health support were popular resources, the spokesperson said, with 46% of members accessing mental health support due to anxiety, stress and depression.
The Healthwise service, developed with digital healthcare provider Square Health, gives members access to on-demand GP services, physiotherapy, and mental health support, including second medical opinions, nutritional advice, and lifestyle coaching modules.
Steve Bryan, director of distribution & marketing at The Exeter, said that the app has made “a huge difference” to the lives of our members and their families, while relieving some of the pressure “on our incredible NHS and front-line workers”.
