Aviva has unveiled enhancements to its suite of wellbeing services for individual, SME and large corporate private medical insurance (PMI) customers, available on new and renewing business from the start of this month.

The new developments include a Line Manager Toolkit, focusing on mental health in the workplace, the roll-out of the Aviva Wellbeing App to SME Solutions customers, improvements to ‘Get Active’ and a dedicated hub of mental health articles and support materials.

The announcement coincides with the launch of Aviva’s PMI enhancements including the introduction of a new guided hospital option to help customers make informed choices about their healthcare.

The Aviva Line Manager Toolkit aims to support those amongst the one in four people who experience mental health issues each year. The Mental Health and Wellbeing in England Adult Psychiatric Morbidity Survey 2014 found one in six people at work suffer with symptoms associated with mental ill health.

Aviva’s industry-first Mental Health Line Manager Toolkit has been developed in partnership with psychological provider CBT Clinics, with a view to strengthening the role of line managers in promoting the mental wellbeing of employees to ensure that they can identify and respond to emotional concerns and symptoms of mental health problems, and signpost to relevant sources of help and support, as recommended by NICE.

The toolkit is a digital service consisting of downloadable content and video modules, designed to help line managers spot the signs and symptoms of poor mental health within their team whether in-office or working remotely, and enable supportive and appropriate conversations with their team members.

The digital proposition is available to all line managers within organisations with PMI cover, even where the line manager is not a member of the PMI scheme.

Aviva is also extending access to its Aviva Wellbeing app to SME clients and their insured employees, to support sleep, stress, weight loss, money management or fitness.

Employees can choose to focus on a particular health motivation to suit them and receive personalised hints, tips and campaigns. They can add health and wellbeing goals to track their progress over time, and the app also includes health-related content and recipes to support individuals’ wellbeing journeys.

Aviva Wellbeing will also include a range of financial wellbeing tools, to help users to monitor their current spending habits and understand the basics of saving and investments.

Aviva has also revisited its existing ‘Get Active’ proposition in line with changing customer demands and behaviours, for all PMI insured lives.

The new  service  also offers discounts at a network of over 3,000 gyms across the UK and  online workouts.

In addition, customers will also be able access a range of offers and discounts on products and services that can support and enhance health and wellbeing, such as recipe boxes, fitness clothing and equipment, outdoor pursuits, travel, spa breaks, and featured smart devices.

The new services are additional to Aviva’s existing wellbeing services including Aviva Digital GP, MyHealthCounts and the provider’s Stress Counselling Helpline.

Steve Bridger, managing director of Aviva UK Health, said: “Being healthy is about more than just not being ill – it’s about our physical, mental and financial wellbeing. We are now offering a range of clinical and lifestyle based wellbeing services that customers can pick and choose from depending on their individual needs, and we believe this will help enable our customers to live their best lives.

“The launch of The Line Manager Toolkit and mental health hub alongside the existing Aviva Digital GP and Mental Health Pathway for SME clients, provides comprehensive mental health support, which is critical particularly during this time and for our customers’ futures.”

Clare Price, head of psychological services from CBT Clinics said: “Mental Health line manager coaching is a vital part of successfully supporting colleagues with mental health issues, something that I and the team at CBT Clinics and Aviva are passionate about.

“A digital tool such as this means the material can be re-visited as often as required. Refreshing knowledge can be helpful in keeping confidence and skills in supporting mental health. This is a win win situation for both the employer and the employee.”
