HDI Global Specialty is working with a managing general agent (MGA) to take its international private medical insurance (IPMI) offering across the globe following an initial launch in Europe.
Last week, Health & Protection revealed that HDI Global Specialty entered the private medical insurance and international PMI markets following the appointment of underwriter Ben Haden from Generali who is charged with launching the operation.
The firm, a joint venture of Hannover Re and HDI Global, said the move into international PMI was part of a longer term growth plan designed to diversify its portfolio by product, geographical scope, production and distribution.
HDI added the PMI and IPMI cover is available across the spectrum of insured lives, from individuals through to multinational corporations, and can be placed through brokers or directly with agents.
Shedding further light on HDI’s expansion plans for the offering, Haden told Health & Protection: “We have started initially by supporting an established MGA with products in specific European territories, but we are looking at the opportunities that exist worldwide.
“As part of the existing relationship, the MGA will distribute the product via its distribution partners and we are looking to replicate this approach in other territories entered.”
HDI would not be drawn on which specific European territories they were working in.
