Pam Whelan, group sales director of Simplyhealth and Denplan, has left the combined business after more than 20 years as part of a management shake-up.
Chief commercial officer Mark Hamson has also left the firm while Jennie Hill has been appointed as interim chief growth officer.
Whelan (pictured) joined Denplan in the summer of 2000 from Chelsea Building Society, where she was a district sales manager.
In December 2011 Simplyhealth bought Denplan from Axa for £115m with Whelan then promoted from corporate dental sales manager to director of corporate for the combined group in 2013.
She was subsequently appointed as director of group sales in 2019.
Hamson had spent 18 years at Simplyhealth and was appointed as cash plan customer service director at the end of 2014.
He was promoted to managing director of corporate and consumer in June 2016 before becoming chief commercial officer in November 2019.
Hamson told Health & Protection that he had chosen to leave the insurer and that his move was not part of a planned management overhaul.
A spokesperson for the provider confirmed Hamson and Whelan had left the business and said it was “progressing recruitment” for a new sales director.
Following the departures, Jennie Hill as joined the business as interim chief growth officer.
Hill joins from law firm Slater and Gordon where she was group chief commercial officer for the last 14 months.
Her move marks a return to the insurance sector as she was previously chief commercial director, future cities for Legal & General Capital and managing director, distribution & partnerships for general insurance.
A Simplyhealth spokesperson told Health & Protection: “We are delighted to announce that we have appointed Jennie Hill as our new interim chief growth officer to help us deliver our Simplyhealth strategy.”
Health & Protection has also contacted Whelan for comment.
