The Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (AMII) has terminated its membership of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

The body said the decision follows “damaging” allegations about misconduct and sexual assault from CBI employees came to light.

AMII executive chairman Dave Middleton (pictured) said: “We are deeply concerned about the allegations made about the CBI and have therefore decided to terminate our membership with immediate effect.

“In light of this, AMII cannot continue to support the CBI, and we have notified the organisation of our immediate termination accordingly.”

In the past week insurers Aviva and Zurich also terminated their membership while Legal & General and Lloyds Banking Group paused activity with the CBI.

The CBI has now admitted it hired “culturally toxic” staff and failed to fire people who sexually harassed female colleagues.
