Bupa has launched a £300 dental allowance for its individual private medical insurance (PMI) customers.

From 1 August, anyone starting a new policy or renewing their current cover has access to a dental appointment at one of 400 Bupa Dental Care practices across the UK, every policy year.

The facility can be used for a routine check-up, a new patient examination, or emergency appointment.

If further care is advised by the dentist, customers have a £300 allowance within their policy towards restorative treatment, such as crowns or fillings.

All those named on a consumer UK insurance policy will receive the allowance and if a policyholder uses this dental appointment benefit or needs treatment, it will not affect their no claims discount or low claims bonus.

Dr Neil Sikka, director of dentistry at Bupa Dental Care, said: “Dental check-ups are essential for maintaining oral health, which is a crucial part of our overall health.

“Helping families to see a dentist every year promotes good oral health habits and enables problems to be found earlier when they’re easier to treat.”

Richard Washington, interim general manager at Bupa UK Insurance, said: “This innovative connected care approach not only aims to enhance overall wellbeing but also creates a seamless experience for our customers.

“We’ve simplified the process for using the dental allowance, which means customers only need to tell the practice they have Bupa health insurance and provide their policy number, and we’ll handle the payment up to the allowance.”
