The 2025 edition of The PMI Handbook for intermediaries seeking information on private medical insurance (PMI) policies in the UK has been published.
The handbook is compiled by Craigdallie Healthcare specialist PMI consultant Andrew Green.
It aims to help intermediaries keep informed on policies and providers. It also includes a digital version.
The 2025 edition features digital-based PMI provider Peachy, who enter for the first time.
Leaders from the Independent Healthcare Providers Network (IHPN), comprising the UK’s largest private hospitals and clinics, have recently been calling on insurers to provide new alternatives such as “PMI light” products to meet the needs of younger patients.
The IHPN believes that the future of the private sector will be determined by a wider pool of younger users accessing preventative and diagnostic services in contrast to the more traditional demographic which uses the independent sector to provide elective operations
Green, compiler of The PMI Handbook, said: “Demand for PMI cover has remained strong this year.
“We have seen calls for the introduction of lighter products to cater for the younger generation to widen the pool of users accessing preventative and diagnostic services rather than full-blown PMI cover.
“There is a need for insurance products to meet the preferences of younger users and to provide low cost, quality coverage to an even wider customer base, especially amongst employers so they can offer a range of insurance benefits for staff.
“Peachy is one of those PMI providers who have set out to attract a wider and younger customer base where cover can be taken out to provide just diagnostics or more basic well-being services with the option to build upwards for in-patient elective procedures.”
The PMI Handbook is a dedicated reference source published for brokers providing cover details on both Individual and Group private medical insurance policies.
“The A5 sized handbook is published in both paper and electronic format. Subscribers to Health & Protection receive an exclusive 35% discount on the subscription.”
