Axa Health has appointed Mel Barnard as director of risk, governance and conduct. She will also sit on the Axa Health executive committee.

She will take up her new role on Monday 14 July.

Barnard (pictured) has more than 20 years’ experience in financial services including most recently as head of first line risk at Direct Line Group, as well as previous roles as head of conduct and controls at Hiscox and head of governance, complaints and operational change at Zurich.

In her role at Axa Health, Barnard will work on identifying and mitigating risk while delivering for the business and its customers.

She will also lead the team to manage the identification and evaluation of key risks, while working on continued compliance with regulations.

Barnard said: “I’m proud to be joining Axa Health, an organisation with a deep commitment to doing the right thing for customers.

“In an evolving health landscape, I’m looking forward to working with a team where strong governance and risk leadership are truly valued and are seen as enablers of purposeful, customer-focused change.

“It’s an exciting time to help shape and strengthen a risk culture that supports both integrity and innovation.”

Heather Smith, CEO at Axa Health said: “I’m delighted to have Mel on board and we’re looking forward to her joining the team in July.

“I’m confident that her customer focus and balanced approach to enabling innovation in a controlled risk environment will be key to helping us deliver our strategy – ‘The path to better health’.”
