Bupa has launched a clinical training facility for healthcare professionals.

While the facility has initially launched for just Bupa’s employees, the provider told Health & Protection its plan is to also support medical professionals across healthcare systems as Bupa creates “collaborative” partnerships with professional bodies, charities and the NHS.

It confirmed that it expects that these partnerships will result in other healthcare practitioners and NHS staff using the facility for training.

The facility, launched amid growing healthcare skills shortages, is designed to promote learning, innovation and build skills for UK healthcare workers.

It will train thousands of health and social care professionals per year.

This includes care workers, nurses, doctors, dental nurses and dentists, with attendees learning, practicing and mastering critical skills in a safe environment.

They will learn in high-tech simulation labs, and use 3D technology, VR headsets and advanced mannequins to practice their clinical skills.

Training will range from cardiothoracic and musculoskeletal (MSK) care to imaging, injection skills, acute care training, genomics and resuscitation training.

Specialist courses for care workers will include enhanced training in subjects such as diabetes, wound care, acute adult care, while dental trainees will have access to oral health practitioner apprenticeships, diplomas, equipment care and maintenance, radiography and anaesthetic courses.

Carlos Jaureguizar, CEO for Bupa Global, India and UK, (pictured) said: “Our clinical training facility, part of Bupa Campus, represents a transformative commitment to build a pipeline of highly skilled talent that will benefit the broader healthcare system in the UK.

“With skill shortages across critical roles in care, dentistry and clinical settings, we recognise the need to develop a pipeline of healthcare professionals in the UK so that people can access the health services they need.

“Through this facility we want to provide a safe setting to master in-depth knowledge and skills, inspiring people to pursue fulfilling careers in healthcare.

“This means access to the latest technologies and techniques to confidently provide patients, customers and residents with high quality care and treatment, to live well for longer and enable better health outcomes.

“With no shareholders, our reinvestment of profits to train the UK’s health workforce underscores our commitment to delivering world-class care for patients and playing our role in the wider health ecosystem to attract, build and retain talented health professionals in the UK.”

The facility, part of Bupa Campus, is based in Staines, UK. Bupa Campus also incorporates facilities in Madrid, Spain and Melbourne, Australia.
