Syrona Health launches workplace obesity programme

Syrona Health has launched a medically supervised weight-loss programme that is available through insurers, intermediaries and employer benefit schemes.

The virtual programme offers clinician-led assessment and prescribing of GLP-1 medication as well as ongoing monitoring and clinic support.

Mental healthcare as well as lifestyle, nutrition and behavioural coaching are also part of the package.

Obesity costs UK companies an estimated £9.4bn a year in lost productivity due to absence and presenteeism, according to Syrona Health.

There is also an impact on the cost of private medial insurance. Indeed, international research by Bupa Global discovered that obesity claims costs have doubled in four years.

Syrona Health co-founder Anya Roy said weight management has for too long been treated as a lifestyle rather than a clinical issue.

“GLP-1 therapies represent a genuine step change in what’s possible – but medication alone is not enough.

“Our programme wraps clinical oversight, hormone health, coaching and mental health support around the prescription, so employees get real, sustained results at significantly lower costs.

“We’ve built this to work within the life-stage benefits ecosystem that brokers and insurers already operate, making it straightforward to add to any employer’s package.”
