Howden is buying the insurance and financial services consulting team of Hymans Robertson for an undisclosed sum.

The transaction is expected to be completed later in the spring of 2026.

It also marks the formal launch of Howden Insurance Actuarial and Longevity (Howden IAL).

The new practice brings together Hymans Robertson insurance and financial services specialists and the insurance actuarial and longevity professionals who joined Howden through its acquisition of Barnett Waddingham (BW) last year.

The formation of Howden IAL brings together a team of around 90 specialist consultants and expands the international reach and range of markets and clients served across Howden’s global platform, the intermediary said.

‘Important development’

Glenn Thomas, CEO and global practice leader, health and employee benefits at Howden, said the move would bring together BW’s longstanding insurance actuarial capability with the Hymans Robertson IFS team’s expertise in delivering strategically critical projects,

“This is an important development for our business and for the market. This move is not just about capability; it is also about people,“ he continued.

“By uniting two high‑quality teams, we are investing in their long‑term development and strengthening our ability to support clients with deeper insight and a more distinctive proposition.”

Scott Eason, managing partner at Howden Insurance Actuarial & Longevity, said: “Today is a milestone moment for our business. This is a significant step in Howden’s long‑term ambition to build a world‑class insurance advisory practice.”

Jon Hatchett, senior partner at Hymans Robertson, said: “We are proud of the strength and reputation of our IFS team and are confident that the newly formed team’s combined skills and Howden’s global reach will deliver a broader service offering for insurance clients.”
