The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has appointed Sacha Romanovitch as its independent non-executive director (INED).
She replaces the outgoing INED Baroness Dianne Hayter and has taken up her role with immediate effect.
Romanovitch was CEO of not-for-profit Fair 4All Finance, which aims to boost financial inclusion.
Before that she was the CEO of accounting firm Grant Thornton.
She is also recognised for her work contributing to the diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) agenda and as an expert in developing company purpose.
As the ABI’s INED, Romanovitch will sit on the board and several committees, including audit and risk, consumer and the appointments and remuneration committees.
She will also attend other groups as appropriate, including the Consumer Advisory Group (CAG) which is made up of key figures from consumer groups such as Which? and Citizens Advice.
The role of the INED is designed to bring outside perspective to the ABI, enrich diversity of experience and reinforce strong governance.

Romanovitch said: “This role involves keeping consumer issues at the forefront of the association’s thinking and I’m looking forward to driving the company’s financial inclusion strategy forwards.
“Insurance, protection and long-term savings are essential for financial resilience, so ensuring as many people as possible can access these products will deliver a brighter, fairer future for the UK.”
