Advisers not forcing teams back to office despite plan B restrictions lifting

Advisers are choosing not to force workers to return to the office amid the lifting of plan B restrictions.

Last week, the UK government announced the lifting of plan B restrictions in England including requirements to work from home if possible.

But as train and tube concourses start to fill with people again, advice firms are taking a consultative approach with staff over the return to the office as Omicron cases fall.

Andrew Wilkinson, director at Moneysworth told Health & Protection: “We have some staff in the office who couldn’t work from home and some other staff have started attending the office part time but also working from home.

“We haven’t forced anyone back that doesn’t want to go back yet. I think we probably fit the ‘gradual’ approach.”

Steve Ellis, head of employee benefit consulting at Prosperis, revealed his firm is asking its people about their preferences.

“However, before the new restrictions came into force, we were all back most of the time. We are very fortunate as our new office is large and well ventilated so there is plenty of opportunity to remain distanced.

According to Alan Lakey, owner of CIExpert, his staff have been allowed to make a decision on whether they return to the office, safety precautions are in place such as mask wearing and hand sanitisers.

But Claire Ginnelly, executive director at Premier Choice Healthcare, told Health & Protection the firm is still deciding in its future approach to the return to the office.

“Prior to the recent work from home guidance, we had still not got all employees back in the office full time and we had adopted a hybrid approach which was due to be reviewed some time in February,” she said.

“When the work form home guidance came in, we reduced time employees were in the office accordingly.

“With this guidance now disappearing, we may well return to a hybrid approach and review this at a later date as we had already agreed. We are discussing this at the moment.”
