The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has opened the search for its next CEO as Robert Sinclair is departing after more than 12 years at the helm.

The body admitted finding its next leader would not be easy, but said it was seeking someone who understands mortgages and can represent brokers at the highest level.

AMI also publishes its Protection Viewpoint Report analysing the state of protection issues within the mortgage industry annually.

In issuing the call for applicants to succeed Sinclair (pictured) who is retiring, AMI said the change presented an opportunity to move it forward as the mortgage world continues to adapt to the new consumer and face future challenges.

It added that its next CEO will need to bring their own experiences of the financial services market, honing them to build respect from both brokers and regulators, and constructively engage with regulators, government, mortgage lenders and other trade bodies.

Its next leader, it continued, will need to be a “voice of reason in a world of increasing complexity, helping to ensure that mortgage intermediaries remain a cornerstone of the mortgage process, advocating for their interests, and maintaining a fair and balanced regulatory environment”.

Not seeking next Sinclair

Elaborating further, Andrew Montlake, chairman of AMI, said: “The AMI board are looking for someone who understands the intricacies of the mortgage market, has the gravitas to represent brokers at the highest levels, and possesses the passion for ensuring that the intermediary sector continues to thrive.

“As you would expect from AMI, we welcome and encourage applications from all backgrounds and are proud to be an equal opportunities employer, fully committed to a policy of treating all its employees and job applicants equally,” Montlake continued.

“We are not looking for the next Robert, there is only one Robert, but whoever takes on the position must be ready to lead with dedication, insight, and vision.

“Their job will be made easier by the fantastic AMI team that Robert has built around him, and harnessing their passion and expertise will be a huge part of the role.

“As Robert bids farewell, we offer him our heartfelt thanks for his service and leadership. He has truly been a pillar of the industry and leaves behind an organisation that is stronger, more resilient, and more respected than ever before.”

Applications are open until Friday 27 September and the full job description can be found on the AMI website. Prospective candidates are invited to submit their CV together with a covering letter to Andrew Montlake.
