The Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries (AMII) training and education platform is set to go live in January 2026.

In May AMII revealed it was building an e-learning platform with support from its compliance partner UKGI Compliance that will enable learning remotely on a range of topics across the whole private medical insurance (PMI) sector.

The system is designed to complement anybody who has taken part in CII certification or is currently on that journey with classroom learning also planned to be available.

At the organisation’s spring summit, executive committee member and Vitality key accounts director Liam Kennedy (pictured) presented a first look at the AMII Academy.

He revealed each participant will have a dashboard as part of their personal portal allowing access to modules covering specific subjects.

Candidates and their employers will be able to track utilisation of modules, what modules need to be completed, pass rates, and their target progress.

Providing an update on the platform at AMII’s autumn summit last week, Kennedy told delegates that the platform is currently undergoing user acceptance testing ahead of January 2026 launch.

Nine modules

The Academy is designed to provide structured learning and certification for intermediaries, starting with nine modules:

  • Introduction to PMI
A high-level overview of the market, offering foundational knowledge of key themes, product features, and market dynamics for industry entrants through to intermediate-level users.
  • UK Private and State Healthcare
Examines the evolution of private healthcare alongside the NHS, highlighting how PMI fills gaps and complements state provision.
  • Global Healthcare – How Does the UK Compare?
Places UK healthcare in a global context, exploring international trends that influence PMI demand and product design.
  • The Market
Reviews the size and composition of the UK PMI market, key providers, schemes, and the role of tax in pricing and suitability.
  • Core Products
Details structure, benefits, and limitations of core products, enabling intermediaries to confidently discuss policy features, benefits, and exclusions.
  • Marketing/Broker’s Duty
Outlines marketing and distribution channels, and the responsibilities of intermediaries in delivering clear, fair advice aligned with Consumer Duty.
  • Underwriting
Introduces risk assessment and premium calculation, explaining factors that influence pricing.
  • Claims
Explores the claims journey from pre-authorisation to settlement, including cost-control methods and coding practices.
  • Laws and Regulation
Provides an overview of UK regulation and legislation, promoting compliance and professionalism.

The modules provide up to 15 hours of CPD and cover all of the core competencies set out by the Insurer Distribution Directive.

Kennedy added AMII will also be expanding upon its introductory video and offering an Earn Your Certification  pathway to help intermediaries demonstrate their expertise through a promotion through its website.

Just the start

But he also told delegates that the initial curriculum is “just the start”.

“While it’s been a year in the making, I’m already looking to build something bigger, more meaningful and more enduring. I want this to last,” he continued.

“So effectively, this is the foundation level, but I believe the platform we’ve built is there to be developed and grow to meet all the needs of insurers and intermediaries and meet all the changing demands and trends of the sector.

“It’s about equipping you with the tools you need to drive high levels of service and achieve better outcomes.”
