Aviva has appointed Dr Jochem Caris as associate medical director, joining from the London Clinic where he was surgical fellow.
He replaces Dr Subashini M who left in October to become director of science and wellness at retailer Holland and Barrett.
The insurer said Dr Caris (pictured) has a broad medical background with a focus on surgery and quality improvement.
After studying medicine at the VU University Medical Centre in Amsterdam, he joined Imperial College London to conduct PhD research into the assessment of quality of care from the patient’s perspective.
He was solely responsible for the implementation of one of the largest internationally accepted patient outcomes databases run by the American College of Surgeons at multiple sites within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
After gaining significant experience in surgery in the NHS and private sector, Dr Caris developed a model that calculated a reputational score for doctors to help patients make better treatment choices, it added.
He will report to Aviva medical director Dr Doug Wright.
Dr Wright said: “I am delighted that Jochem has joined the team at Aviva Health.
“He brings a wealth of experience and his expertise in the field of healthcare outcomes will help us to continue to drive forward our value-based healthcare agenda.”
Dr Caris added: “Customer choices should be based on quality, providing the best outcomes relevant to them, within an uncomplicated journey.
“I believe my experience will help aid Aviva in better understanding our customers’ needs so that we can improve their health and wellbeing.”
