Aviva is removing the limits on its digital GP appointments for individual protection customers and their families as part of an overhaul of its DigiCare+ service.

The insurer is also expanding its mental health, bereavement and nutrition support for these customers and adding a personal training benefit, but it will start charging £39.95 for annual finger-prick health checks.

These changes will be effective from 29 January 2026 and will apply to policies bought direct and through advisers.

Wider access

Digital GP appointments will be available 24-hours a day and seven days a week, replacing the current limit of three appointments per year between 8am and 8pm.

Appointments through the Aviva DigiCare+ app are now unlimited for the policyholder, partner or spouse, and children up to age 18, or 21 if in full-time education, and are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

In addition, Aviva is expanding its mental health, bereavement and nutrition support, with allowances increased from six to eight sessions per year for each of the services.

The eight sessions for each of the nutrition, mental health, bereavement counselling and a newly added personal training benefit, are shareable between the policyholder, their partner or spouse, and children.

The personal training service will be introduced to support physical wellbeing.

Customers will be able to access up to eight online consultations a year, where a personal trainer will assess their fitness, aspirations and challenges, before developing a bespoke fitness training programme that can be accessed digitally.

Health check charge

Meanwhile, the finger-prick annual health check and digital follow-up appointment with a clinician will be available for £39.95 through the app.

This was previously offered at no additional cost.

Aviva added this change maintains access to the health check for the policyholder, while providing unlimited 24/7 digital GP access for the whole family.

The remote GP and several other services are provided by Square Health.

Fran Bruce, managing director of protection at Aviva (pictured), said the changes reflected its commitment to supporting customers and their families with accessible, round-the-clock healthcare and wellbeing services.

“Unlimited digital GP appointments, now available 24/7, means customers and family members can get medical advice whenever they need it,“ said Bruce.

“We are also delighted to expand our mental health, bereavement and nutrition support, along with adding a new personal trainer offering, to further support our customers with wellbeing and prevention.

“While the annual health check will now carry a small cost, this change helps ensure we are providing a really high-quality added-value benefit, with extended value to all customers and family members through unlimited access to a digital GP service.”
