Axa and Aetna International are the largest providers in the international private medical insurance (IPMI) sector according to Health & Protection’s inaugural market report.
Axa covers 850,000 lives under IPMI policies, although this includes all lives it insures not just those under its Global Healthcare brand, while Aetna International supports 800,000 people.
Four other providers also made their data available to Health & Protection with Bupa Global covering 510,000, Expatriate Healthcare covering 225,000, and April International and Now Health International both covering 130,000.
Allianz said it was the largest provider in terms of annual revenue but was not prepared to share details such as the number of people it insures.
