Axa Global Healthcare claimed the second FJN six-a-side cup with a highly dramatic penalty shootout win over Charles Taylor Assistance after equalising with the last kick of the game.
That strike was the side’s second late goal of a gripping final and levelled the scores at 3-3, forcing the match to a deciding penalty shootout.
Each team successfully converted their first five penalties bringing the goalkeepers face-to-face.
After Axa Global Healthcare goalkeeper Jordan Heir scored, his opposite number Geoff Foster at Charles Taylor Assistance hit the post, sending the trophy to the team in red and black stripes.
Charles Taylor Assistance had built a well-deserved 3-1 lead after dominating the early exchanges and never trailed in the final, but despite hard work and some desperate defending were ultimately pegged back at the death.
For his performances throughout the tournament including scoring a fine goal in the final, Axa Global Healthcare captain Dean Tincombe (pictured above) was awarded player of the tournament as he also collected the trophy for his victorious side from Health & Protection editor Owain Thomas.
The two sides each won their respective five-team groups before defeating teams from Howden and AJ Gallagher respectively in the semi-finals.
Six other teams representing Allianz, Bupa Global, Clear/Lawsure, FJN Solutions, Greens Insurance Brokers and Now Health International completed the two groups.
The tournament was held to benefit charity Wolfram UK with £800 being raised on the day through donations.
