Axa Health is introducing a nutrition coaching service for its healthcare plan members undergoing cancer treatment.
Individual and SME members of health plans that include cancer cover can access the programme through the cancer care team at no additional cost.
Members of large corporate insured and trust schemes whose cancer claims are managed through the cancer care team will able to opt-in to the service which costs £600 from their October 2021 renewals.
The six-month nutrition coaching programme provides additional support to cancer patients experiencing issues such as weight loss or loss of appetite in a bid to help them feel more like themselves.
The programme includes personalised nutrition advice and guidance provided by the insurer’s coaches by phone and through the My Coach app.
For corporate clients, the £600 charge per person has two invoices to allow for drop-off of members who decide not to continue past three months.
The first three months, which includes the set-up, license costs and the first three months of coaching, cost £360, with the second three months costing £240.
While use of the service does not affect members’ outpatient benefit limits, excesses apply, and no claims discounts are impacted on plans that have them.
Axa Health head of clinical services Dr Katrina Herren said: “Poor nutrition can adversely affect patients’ response to cancer treatment, resistance to infection and speed of recovery.
“That’s why we’ve introduced this nutrition coaching programme – to help members affected by cancer follow a healthy, balanced diet. And give them back a sense of control at what can be such a difficult time.”
