Axa launches long Covid service

Axa Health is introducing a new service to help support customers affected by long Covid.

Latest statistics suggest one in five people who’ve tested positive for Covid-19 still have symptoms more than 5 weeks later, with one in 10 experiencing problems for 12 weeks or more.

Long Covid is characterised by clusters of symptoms which can overlap and will sometimes fluctuate over this period. This can include breathlessness, chronic fatigue, ‘brain fog’, anxiety and stress.

From the end of April Axa Health customers whose GP or occupational health physician refers them for investigation of long Covid will be offered online or telephone consultations with specialists experienced in treating the condition.

Where clinically appropriate, customers can also take part in a physiotherapist-led 12-week remote rehabilitation programme, featuring a blend of physical and emotional support.

Axa Health marketing & proposition director Andy McClure says: “Our new service will enable customers affected by the condition to be assessed promptly by a specialist experienced in its treatment.

“We are confident the service will provide welcome, personalised support to customers at a difficult time when they’re feeling low and anxious and hope it will help them make a meaningful start on their road to recovery.”
