Steve Barclay (pictured) is once again health and social care secretary, succeeding Thérèse Coffey who held the role for little more than a month under the disaterous leadership of Liz Truss.

Mel Stride also succeed Chloe Smith as secretary of state for work and pensions who had an equally brief period in the post under Truss.

Jeremy Hunt retained the position of chancellor having only taken on the role 12 days ago.

The moves were part of a widescale Cabinet reshuffle yesterday, by newly appointed prime minister Rishi Sunak who took over from Liz Truss on Monday following her resignation last week.

Truss had held the position for just 44 days after succeeding Boris Johnson.

Barclay originally took over as health secretary from Sajid Javid in the summer after Javid and then-chancellor Sunak resigned, which began the chain of events that led to Boris Johnson’s resignation as prime minister.

Stride was previously leader of the House of Commons from May 2019 to July 2019, and financial secretary to the Treasury from June 2017 to May 2019.
