Beagle Street rolls out enhanced CI cover to intermediaries

Beagle Street, part of the OneFamily Group, is adding an enhanced critical illness (CI) cover plan to its intermediary product range.

The launch follows Beagle Street’s entry into the intermediary market in June with life insurance and a core critical illness product.

The Critical Illness Plus product covers 40 full payment conditions and six additional payment conditions, including prostate and breast cancer in-situ, angioplasty for a single coronary artery, low-grade testicular cancer, ovarian cancer of borderline malignancy and accidental hospitalisation benefit.

These additional payment conditions are designed to ensure cover remains relevant to real customer circumstances, helping advisers show the tangible value of protection beyond the core conditions.

Children’s cover is available as an optional extra, paying 50% of the sum assured up to a maximum of £30,000 and cover extending to age 22 for children in full-time education.

The product is also supported by a range of value-added services, including Reframe Cancer, Square Health for 24/7 virtual GP access, RedArc support, will writing and legal services.

It is available through major intermediary platforms, including IPipeline, Iress and UnderwriteMe.

CIExpert verdict

Providing his verdict on the launch, Alan Lakey, director at CIExpert said: “Many advisers will remember the appearance of Beagle Street in September 2012, when it emerged as a D2C challenger under the auspices of the BGL group, which itself is the principal interest behind Compare The Market.

“Now under the stewardship of One Family, Beagle Street has turned its attention toward the advisory domain, aspiring to secure a prominent position through this launch and the promise of a more expansive product suite in due course.
“The ranks of insurers have thinned steadily since the 1990s, a contraction lamented by many who favour breadth of choice. It is therefore a matter of some satisfaction that advisers are presented with an additional option for the construction of protection arrangements suited to the varied circumstances of their clients.”
But Lakey added that an issue of note is its inclusion of cover for single-artery angioplasty, a provision seldom encountered among offerings occupying the more economical reaches of the market.
“This benefit, together with the other supplementary payment conditions, provides the lesser of £30,000 or 50% of the sum assured – which, upon comparison, places the plan in a favourable relation to the standard propositions of many competing insurers,” Lakey continued.
“Non-contractual health benefits are included courtesy of Square Health, RedArc and Reframe Cancer.”

The insurer said it aimed to offer a more comprehensive level of cover for customers and give advisers a stronger option for clients who need broader protection without losing sight of affordability.

Holly Ewing, distribution director at Beagle Street, (pictured) said: “This launch is about giving advisers more choice, more confidence and more reasons to consider Beagle Street. Critical Illness Plus offers standout cover, strengthens our intermediary proposition and supports our ambition to make quality protection accessible to more customers.

“Combining this comprehensive cover with value-added services such as Reframe underlines our focus on real customer outcomes. Together, these features give advisers a compelling new way to deliver meaningful protection for a wider range of customer needs.”

Ryan Griffin, protection director at OneFamily, said: “Critical Illness Plus is designed to compete in the heartland of the market and includes several industry firsts, including six additional payment conditions. Backed by agile technology and transparent, competitive pricing, the product is focused on making it simpler for advisers to put affordable protection in place for those who need it most. It is another clear signal of our commitment to building a credible, competitive and customer-focused intermediary proposition.

“This is the next step in a broader multi-year roadmap, with further developments planned to expand the proposition and support advisers in reaching more customers. We are building momentum quickly, and Critical Illness Plus strengthens the platform for what comes next.”

Emma Astley, founder of CoverMyBubble, highlighted the additional payments for earlier stage conditions and the angioplasty definition as positive additions and could make a meaningful difference at claim stage.
