Bupa Global MD Cabrelli retires as Allan leaves dental arm

Bupa Global’s managing director Anthony Cabrelli is to retire.

This is one of several senior moves at the health insurer, which sees Siobhan Moynihan replace Cabrelli while Mark Allan is to leave the dental business with Jesús Bonilla succeeding him. Allan has led the business’ strategy and transformation since 2022.

The final appointment is Clare Binmore being named as the incoming chief financial officer for Bupa Global in India and the UK.

End of era

The news brings to an end Cabrelli’s five-year leadership of the international private medical insurance division.

Back in October 2021, Health & Protection exclusively revealed Cabrelli (pictured) was replacing Sheldon Kenton as Bupa Global MD. This marked a return to Bupa as Cabrelli had previously spent more than two decades at the insurer.

His career has included work across various international leadership roles, including general management, commercial leadership, operations, transformation and start-ups.

During this period, Cabrelli spent four years as head of the Latin American healthcare business.

He also has a five-year stint at United Healthcare as president for global solutions, where he led new market development and global benefits.

Cabrelli will continue to work with Bupa in advisory roles to help direct future growth.

He will be replaced by Siobhan Moynihan, who becomes general manager of the business. She steps up from chief financial officer in October.

New faces

Chris Carroll, chief executive for Bupa Global, India and UK, said: “These appointments build on our strategy to transform healthcare, develop partnerships, and drive expansion and growth in our key markets.

“As we move to the next phase of patient-centred connected care pathways, I am pleased to bring this depth of experience to our executive team.

“My thanks go to Anthony and Mark for their considerable contribution to Bupa, and we wish them every success for the future.”

Bupa chief executive Iñaki Ereño said: “These appointments are recognition of the unrivalled strength and pipeline of leading talent we have across Bupa to be at the forefront of market-leading innovation around the world and meet our customers’ evolving health needs.”

All of the new appointments start in October, if they secure regulated approval.
