Bupa UK Insurance CEO Richard Washington and Legal & General retail CEO Laura Mason have been appointed to the Association of British Insurers’ (ABI) board.
Mason’s appointment follows L&G re-joining the ABI at the start of the year.
The pair join AIG UK CEO Chris Rash and Pension Insurance Corporation interim CEO Dominic Veney as new board members.
The ABI board has oversight of any major cross-cutting political, regulatory or consumer issues and leads sector-wide strategic discussions to help shape the ABI’s priorities and business plan.
Baroness Kay Swinburne, ABI chairwoman, said: “We are delighted to welcome Laura, Chris, Dominic and Richard to the board. The breadth of experience and diversity of thought that they bring will greatly enrich our work.
“We would like to thank Anthony Baldwin, former CEO of AIG UK, Tracy Blackwell, former CEO of Pension Insurance Corporation, and Chris Carroll, now CEO of Bupa Global, for all that they contributed to the ABI during their time on the board.”
Mason (pictured) said: “The UK’s retirement and protection needs are complex and constantly evolving, which is why L&G believes a collaborative approach, that draws across industries and fields of expertise, is so crucial.
“I look forward to working with the ABI and the wider board to strengthen the effort to improve outcomes, widen access to long-term savings and help people feel more financially secure.”
Washington added: “I’m pleased to be joining the ABI board at an important time for our industry.
“Our focus on healthcare means we see first-hand the role insurance plays in helping customers live longer, healthier, happier lives.
“I look forward to working with the board and members to help shape policy and regulation that underpins a sustainable, customer-focused insurance sector.”
