Chubb has appointed Peter Kelaher as division president for Continental Europe, Middle East and North Africa.
In his new role, Kelaher will have executive operating responsibility for 24 countries across the area.
Chubb said Kelaher will succeed Sara Mitchell, who will be leaving Chubb. She has worked there for more than 13 years, with three years as the divisional president of Continental Europe, Middle East and North Africa.
Kelaher is a 20-year industry veteran and is currently country president of Australia and New Zealand.
The appointment, which is subject to regulatory approval, is expected to be effective 1 September 2024.
Kelaher joined Chubb Australia in 2007 as senior underwriter. Prior to his role as country president for Australia and New Zealand, he held increasingly senior roles in that region.
He began his career as a financial underwriter for a property and casualty (P&C) insurance company in Australia.
Reporting to David Furby, senior vice president, Chubb Group and regional president Europe, Middle East and Africa, he will be based in Paris.
Furby said: “Peter brings more than 20 years of experience, including more than 15 years at Chubb, to this important role within the region.
“He has played an important role in leading our growing commercial and consumer businesses in Australia and New Zealand.
“I look forward to working with him to continue the development of our business throughout Continental Europe, Middle East and Africa.”

Kelaher holds a bachelor’s degree of Laws and International Business from University of Technology, Sydney.
