Hesitancy to get a Covid vaccination has declined among younger age groups, according to official data.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data for the period 23 June to 18 July 2021 revealed vaccine hesitancy among 16 to 17 year olds has fallen from 14% to 11%, from 9% to 5% among 18 to 21 year olds, and from 10% to 9% among 22 to 25 year olds.

Deprivation also had a bearing on hesitancy rates as 8% of adults in more deprived areas of the country were more hesitant to get a Covid jab compared with 2% in least deprived areas.

Adults living in the most deprived areas of England (based on the Index of Multiple Deprivation) were more likely to report vaccine hesitancy (8%) than adults living in the least deprived areas (2%).

London was the most hesitant area (7%) with the least hesitant being the East of England (2%).

The data also showed unemployed adults (12%) were more likely to report vaccine hesitancy than those who were in employment (4%) or retired (1%).
