CQC finds clinical homecare provider inadequate and places in special measures

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has ruled that a Poole-based dialysis treatment provider requires safety improvements.

The regulator carried out an inspection of Renal Services in March following a Covid outbreak in the Dorset region in January which affected 40 of the provider’s patients and four members of staff.

The CQC says the inspection was prompted by concerns about the safe management of infection and the potential risk to patients who use the service following the outbreak.

Following the inspection, the first since the provider’s registration with CQC in October 2019, the service was rated good overall and good for effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led but was rated requires improvement for safety.

In response, a spokesperson for Renal Services said the health and safety of its patients and care teams is its top priority.

“Since the outbreak in January and subsequent inspection by the CQC in March, we have assembled a task force at our clinic in Poole to diligently monitor and reinforce our extensive infection control practices,” the spokesperson said.

“We will continue to work closely with the CQC and implement documented safety best practices to ensure that our team of professionals are in compliance with instituted protocols to help prevent the spread of the disease and protect our patients and care teams.”
